Wayne Scales Undergraduate Research and Creative Scholarship Program

The Office of Undergraduate Research is currently recruiting undergraduate students to participate in the Dr. Wayne Scales Undergraduate Research and Creative Scholarship Award. Students who have completed or are currently working on undergraduate research, independent study projects, or creative scholarship in any field are strongly encouraged to apply.

Selected students will participate in a rigorous professional development process, focused on scientific communication, to prepare them to showcase their research as part of the Undergraduate Research and Creative Scholarship Symposium. A group of Virginia Tech faculty will judge the oral presentations on quality and content. Awards will be presented to selected students.

Eligibility:

  • Student has completed or is currently completing an ongoing undergraduate research project
  • Student has substantial progress in their undergraduate research project to discuss at the Dennis Dean Undergraduate Research Conference

Expectations:

  • Present their research as part of the Dennis Dean Undergraduate Research and Creative Scholarship Conference in April 2026
  • Attend an orientation session on Monday, December 8
  • Attend 3 professional development workshops throughout the spring semester focused on scientific communication
  • Attend and present at 2 feedback sessions leading up to the Dennis Dean Undergraduate Research Conference
