Working with Minors

Educational programming and activities involving minors are integral to the engagement mission of Virginia Tech. Ensuring the safety and well-being of minors on campus is imperative.

Virginia Tech encourages the safety and well-being of minors participating in any programs and activities that involve non-enrolled minors and are sponsored by Virginia Tech or conducted by other organizations on campus, including camps, clinics, workshops, conferences, research lab mentorships, or other educational activities, on campus or off.

Can you mentor a minor in research? Yes! But working with minors requires additional considerations. Virginia Tech’s Office of Youth Protection provides oversight and guidance for working with minors. Here are some relevant policies and guidelines, which pertain to faculty, post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, and any other VT employees who may supervise visiting minors.
