Travel Grant

In these uncertain times, the Virginia Tech Office of Undergraduate Research encourages students to present their research at virtual conferences. OUR travel support program will cover expenses related to presenting at a virtual conference. This rolling review process is designed to assist undergraduate students who have had their research or creative scholarship accepted for presentation at a regional, national or international conference. This program will provide travel funding to students who, without this support, may not be able to attend a conference to present their work. Current undergraduates from any discipline are eligible to apply for travel support.

The office will match funds you secure from other sources (such as your research mentor, department, college, student organization, student government, etc.) up to $750 to support your travel, based on fund availability. Students must apply before they present at a conference. Please note that we are only able to fund one student per accepted presentation and students will only be eligible to receive travel support once per academic year.

As a condition of OUR support for conference travel you are required to present your research at one of the VT Undergraduate Research symposia held in the spring or summer of each year. To apply, please fill out the form below. For national travel please apply at least 2 weeks before the conference takes place and promptly submit receipts when you return. For international travel please apply 1 month before.

Please note that funds provided to support student travel are taxable and should be disclosed on relavant tax forms. Also, travel support funds may impact your financial aid, as they are considered to be a financial award.
